Little DragonLittle Dragons Grading – Saturday 28th June

If you were thinking it would be good for your student to come to the Little Dragons grading, but haven’t acted on it yet, it isn’t too late!

Please let Kevin know early this week if you can come, particularly if you need to buy a uniform for your student. You won’t regret it! It is a special family event with lots of encouragement. Many of our current yellow belts were Little Dragons last year.  What to expect at Little Dragons.

Any senior students who would like to help out at this Saturday’s Little Dragons grading (11:30am), please let Mr Donaldson know by Thursday. Beginners gain a lot from seeing our more experienced students and it is a great way for you to be a leader in our Club.

grading bookGrading with Master Tan – Sunday 29th June

Grading day is a fantastic opportunity to show what you have learned over the past three or more months and achieve the belt you have been working towards. What to expect on grading day.

We still need a few more volunteers to:

  • work 1 hour shifts – selling drinks and cakes at the canteen, plus
  • 1-2 people who can make cupcakes for selling on the day (no nuts & an ingredients list must be provided)

All funds raised on the day will go back to support our club! Please email us: tanstaekwondoipswich@gmail.com or let Kevin know this week if you can pitch in.

Thanks Kristy, Kristen, Blaine, Gavin, Kelly, Stan and Scott who have already let Kevin know they can help out on the day.

Also available on the day at Grading:

Adelaide Nationals Raffle – Tickets $1 ea or 3 for $2

Fantastic Prizes:

Ipswich Subway supporting our grading with Subways for everyone! Please put a gold coin in the tin to support our Adelaide bound families. Thank you Subway and Liz for organising this donation!

  • Buy home-made ninjabread men and cupcakes at the canteen
  • Buy drinks at the canteen ($1.50)

Thank you to Mr Donaldson, the Moore family, Ipswich Subway and Limelight Cinemas for supporting our Club.

Any help at the end of Grading is greatly appreciated, as floor mats need to be pulled up and chairs stacked etc Many hands make light work! Thank you!

Remember: passes are non-refundable and are only valid during the holiday period.  Classes are held at the PCYC Ipswich.

Mouth Guards required

In the interest of safety, Mr Donaldson has requested that all students who play TKD tag or are learning sparing use a mouthguard.  These are generally less than $10 and can be purchased at the chemist. (Junior sizes are available).

Transforming our Dojang!

There are plans to update our dojang! It will be painted and martial arts decals will be put on the walls. It is going to look amazing! Closer to the time, we will be keen to seek  parents or senior student volunteers who can help get the room ready for painting (eg. removing noticeboards, cleaning and sanding walls). We don’t have notice of when the main work will occur, but it could be soon, so please look out for any calls for help on Facebook or in TKD classes.

Thanks Andrew and Cassie for helping to make this project happen.

Have you got an idea for fundraising?

We know that most volunteers have their own thing they are good at or are interested in doing. If you have an idea about fundraising, please let Kevin know or email us at tanstaekwondoipswich@gmail.com thanks!   We would consider doing a Bunnings BBQ later in the year if there were enough interested parents who could help to make this happen.

Please let Kevin know this week if sourcing or cooking snags is your thing!

Thanks Gavin, Kelly and Stan who have already let Kevin know they are interested in helping out at a BBQ. We will begin investigating when we could run a BBQ, but will still need more volunteers to make it happen.

Grants to Support our Club!

We have a list of possible grants we are hoping to apply for.  These can help support students who need financial support to compete interstate plus fund new equipment and programs to provide even better training opportunities for all of our students!   Have a chat to Kevin or send us an email at tanstaekwondoipswich@gmail.com if you are interested in writing a grant application/s. We would love to hear from you!

Thanks to Sean and Caroline who have expressed an interest in this area!

Cake StallCupcake stall - fundraising

Liz ran a cake stall in the PCYC Ipswich foyer over the last two Mondays and raised $265.50. This money will help our five students and coach to travel, stay and compete at the Sports Taekwondo Australia National Championships (in Adelaide). Please support the cake stall next term if you are around on Mondays.

A big Thank You to Liz, as well as Natasha and Ash’s Nana for contributing baking, and Alex, Faith and Ash for selling their yummy food!

Traditional Martial Arts Weapons Training  coming soon to Taekwondo Ipswich!Kevin Donaldson with the sai

Part way through Term 3, Mr Donaldson will introduce advanced students to martial arts weapons training, including the Sai and Nunchaku.

The purpose is to improve students’ Taekwondo skills and self-defence, by learning the proper handling and movement of weapons. Knowing weapons techniques and forms will improve students’ patterns, balance, speed of movement and power.

Weapons training will be included in normal TKD classes, usually taking up about fifteen minutes of a class, and at other times it may be a specific focus of a lesson. Mr Donaldson has wooden versions of these weapons to ensure student safety. If you have any questions, please talk to Mr Donaldson.
